Have you ever heard of the 'Summer Slide'? Unfortunately, 'Summer Slide' is not a bright yellow twisty tube found on a playground or gushing with water at an awesome waterpark.
Instead, it's a term for what happens to your brain when you take a break from reading, facing challenges, or staying active.
Research suggests that two months of your learning could disappear, forgotten.
Camp Excellent wants you to stay sharp, or better yet, we want you to improve over the summer. So, here are some tips to get 'Summer Sharp.'
1- Read 20 minutes a day. Bonus if you journal about what you read. Reading is so good for your mind and your life.
2- Unplug yourself from all screens. Limit your screen time, including games, TV, Internet, social media, YouTube. If that sounds horrible or impossible, realize that your brain is hooked on the junk food that is way too much screen time.
3- Get active and avoid sitting around. Kids should play, a lot. At Camp Excellent we'll be having fun all day - it's great for both your mind and body to be moving around. Even if you're not at camp, get moving - get playing!
4- Pay attention to your positivity. If you catch yourself being negative say, 'Cancel that!' and replace it with some positive thinking. Negative self-talk and criticism are BAD for your health. They can damage your self-esteem and mental health. Do your best to focus on the positive and take care of that beautiful person in the mirror. Do the same for friends and family. It feels great.
5- Put yourself around positive people. Avoid the rage monster that plays games online or the neighbor who's 'yelling at clouds' and seek out people who are a pleasure to be around. They would also benefit from your company!
